Experience Design
for visitor attractions &
informal learning environments

The Fourth Voice is an independent practice in interpretation and experience design for informal learning environments: science centres, museums, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, heritage sites, parks and visitor attractions.

WRITING & SPEAKING

Fatema Almalood is an experience designer. Originally trained through science-centre design and facilitation, she has contributed to projects spanning exhibition development, interpretive content, visitor experience and spatial storytelling in Bahrain, UAE, South Africa, and the United States.

Her experience includes direct involvement in the establishment and delivery of Bahrain Science Centre and contributions to major cultural and educational projects through MTE Studios, including Dubai Frame and Quranic Park. Her work is shaped by an understanding of free-choice learning: visitors are not captive audiences, and every element must earn their attention.

Fatema holds a BA in Graphic Design from Applied Science University and completed graduate study courses in Design Management and Communications at Georgetown University. She works bilingually in Arabic and English, bringing particular insight into culturally diverse audiences and the interpretation of Gulf and Islamic heritage.

A chapter author in Amplifying Informal Science Learning: Rethinking Research, Design, and Engagement (Diamond & Rosenfeld, Routledge, 2023), writing on the origins of interactive science centres and the current state of the sector in the Middle East.
